Dr Dylan Coleman

Dr Coleman is a Kokatha (Gugatha) Aboriginal/Greek woman from the far west coast of South Australia. She is a Lecturer in Yaitya Purruna Indigenous Health Unit, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, at the University of Adelaide. In 2011, Dr Coleman completed her doctorate at the University of Adelaide’s English Department.  It explores Indigenous narrative process and its capacity to recreate stories of trauma and loss into ones of survival and liberation.  Dr Coleman is a multi-award winning writer with a keen interest in centering community stories through literary, film and experimental procedural ways to work with oral storytelling and text.  Her experience is in community engagement within various Indigenous communities throughout Australia, and in South Australia in the area of public health and social justice, with a focus on substance misuse and building community capacity and resilience through community controlled approaches to health. Current research includes aspirational pathways for Indigenous youth supported by collaborative and co-ordinated multi-service delivery approaches. Dr Coleman also has a keen interest in Indigenous Sovereignty and community pathways to Aboriginal self-government and supports the Constitutional Recognition and the Treaty campaigns. Dylan is an Affiliate Investigator with CREATE.
