Bundamurra is currently working with SA Health & Medical Research Institute as a senior cultural advisor working with the Heart and Stroke team and the PROPHECY TEAM. Previously he worked with the Cancer Council of SA as an Educator in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cancer Prevention Team travelling to 80 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities throughout Australia. He has some Pitjantjatjara language skills which came in handy in Northern Territory and with the Central Desert region. Bundamurra is a senior Indigenous Koori man, he is an elder of the Eora and Yuin First Nations originally from the La Perouse community in NSW. Bundamurra has lived in SA for nearly 39 years, he has had a long career in the Australian Government for 26 years starting out in Employment and Training and finishing in the Department of Health and Ageing mainly in Aboriginal Health. He has worked in Aboriginal Languages research and revival as the Manager of Yaitya Warra Wodli Language Centre for 3 years. He has worked in State government for 5 years as a senior policy officer with the Aboriginal Health Division in SA Health and then 2 years in the Mental Health Unit before early retirement in 2007.Since then he has worked with Aboriginal Health Council of SA as the Tackling Smoking Coordinator. During his time in State Government he served as a member of the Ministerial Reference Group on Tobacco for a period of 5 years. He is currently doing post graduate studies in the Master of Public Health at Deakin University in Geelong Victoria. He is a well-respected elder who is well known in the national arena of Aboriginal Affairs and he is highly regarded in Aboriginal community in South Australia. He is a member of the SA Health Suicide Prevention Advisory Committee and also serves on the Health and Community Services Complaints Advisory Council both by ministerial appointment.
Bundamurra is also an Affiliate Investigator within CREATE.
